North Sea Port Ghent Opens “Havenhuis” On Heritage Day

On Sunday 28 April, on Heritage Day, North Sea Port will open the prestigious and historic building “Huis van de Vrije Schippers” in the centre of Ghent for the public. (second building from the left)

The façade has been covered for a long time, and now the refurbishment works are totally done. Port of Ghent acquired this 16th century guildhall in 2011. The building is located in the very heart of Ghent. As from the 11th century the port was located in the middle of the city. The guildhall served as a trade connection between sea-cargo and inland-waterways-cargo.

Now the building will serve as promotion for North Sea Port.

Increase In Revenue And EBITDA But Red-Figure Net Results For ANEK

Figures 2018:

-9% ferry crossings

-7% passengers = 965,000 (1,040,000)

-7% cars = 189,000 (204,000)

-5% freight units = 132,000 (139,000)

Financial results in a nutshell:

  • Increase in turnover and EBIDTA.
  • The increase resulted from the Adriatic Sea routes as well as from vessels’ chartering to companies abroad.
  • ANEK counterbalanced rising operating costs resulting from the increase in fuel prices by approximately 25%.
  • After three consecutive years of profitability, the Group and the Parent company recorded losses after taxes. Extraordinary provisions as well as financing and investing results had a negative effect on net results and equity, which turned negative.
  • Turnover: +2.1% Group / +2.8% Parent company
  • Gross profit: +0.6% Group / -2.1% Parent Company
  • EBITDA: +14% Group / +12.1% Parent Company

First Annual Report For Attica Group Since Integration Of Hellenic Seaways

Attica Group consolidates for the first time Hellenic Seaways in the financial statements for the period 1.6.2018-31.12.2018.

+34,56% Revenue consolidated 365.4 (271.54)

-4.28% EBITDA 57 (59.55)

++ Income after tax and minority interests 17.11 (1.25)

· The total debt of the Group stood, as at 31st December 2018, at € 346.08mln (€ 238.73mln as at 31st December, 2017) of which long-term borrowings are € 274.50mln (€ 214.43mln) while short-term borrowings stood at € 71.58mln (€ 24.30mln).

· The Group’s total equity as at 31st December, 2018 stood at € 409.18mln, corresponding to € 1.90 per share.

· Completion of refinancing of large part of the group’s debt with significantly lower cost financial results.

· The lower EBITDA margin in 2018 is attributed mainly to the significant increase in fuel price and to the integration cost of Hellenic Seaways Maritime S.A. («HSW»).

Onorato And ARS Altmann To Relaunch Auto Logistics Hub At Piombino Port

The Onorato Group is to build a 300,000 m² terminal for storing cars on the north dock of Piombino port.

Onorato has signed an agreement with Germany’s ARS Altmann AG, one of the leading service providers of automotive logistics in Europe, and the investment will be around €17 million.

  • Mid-April, DFDS introduced the chartered ro-ro vessel TRANSPORTER (Eckerö) on the Norway – Belgium – Immingham route.It is a weekly service, with departures on Mondays from Fredrikstad, Halden on Tuesdays, Zeebrugge on Thursdays and Immingham on Saturdays
  • In addition to Corsica, Sardinia and the Balearic Islands, Corsica Ferries started to connect Toulon and Sicily on 22 April 2019 too.

Damen Launches Two Road Ferries For BC Ferries

In the space of just a few weeks, two, 81m road ferries for BC Ferries have been launched at Damen Shipyards Galati and are now being fitted out. Once operational they will be capable of carrying up to 300 passengers and crew, and 47 vehicles.

The ferries have been built to Damen’s Road Ferry 8117E3 design and the order was secured following an extensive, multi-phased, international tender process. BC Ferries is currently undertaking a fleet renewal programme. The twin Damen Road Ferry 8117E3 will serve the Northern Gulf Islands off the coast of Vancouver, replacing vessels that are now over fifty years old

ForSea Sees Significant Environmental Progress

Throughout Q1, ForSea has operated the world’s largest battery-powered passenger ferries, AURORA and TYCHO BRAHE, on the Helsingborg-Helsingør route. The environmental benefits have been significant: The ferry operator’s total emissions of CO2 and harmful particles have been halved compared to the prior year.

Q1 results:

  • -4% Passengers 1.24 million (due to the fact that this year Easter is in Q2)

STENA EUROPE Undergoes Refit Upgrades In Turkey

The STENA EUROPE, which operates on the Fishguard – Rosslare ferry service is currently undergoing a significant three-month refit visit to the Gemak Shipyard in Tuzla, Turkey.

The vessel is scheduled to return late June 2019 and during the visit a number of upgrade projects will be completed. One of the most significant projects to be undertaken includes modifications to the deckhead levels on the main vehicle deck to allow for the carriage of full-height trailers across the whole of the main vehicle deck.

Prior to arrival at the Turkish shipyard, she was restricted to carrying full-height trailers on its port side only.
