  • Last year, Tallink Grupp saw unaudited revenue from restaurant and shops sales (including onshore) slide by 2.3% to €524.4 million as spend per passenger declined slightly.
  • The core retail and restaurant segment accounted for 55.2% of total Tallink Grupp revenue in 2018, in line with 2017 (55.5%).
  • Sweden-Finland is key route for generating duty free sales . Traffic fall of 2.5%. Reason is the BALTIC PRINCESS which was out of service for 68 days in Q1, for maintenance.
  • Estonia-Finland is busiest route (5.1 million pax). Increased competition = pressure on ticket prices. A new ferry has been ordered to join the MEGASTAR on the route in 2021.

Tallink’s vessel STAR, which operates on the Tallinn-Helsinki route, was recently renovated at the Klaipeda shipyard in Lithuania.

  • Innovative „EnergoProFin“ solution was fitted on the propellers: an additional screw with small rotors, which increases efficiency and reduces the energy loss resulting from the whirlpool by 2-5%, and which also reduce the underwater noise and vibration caused by the vessel.
  • Complete renovation of Snack Time cafe and Starbucks Café.
  • Sea Pub was updated with a brand new concept.
  • Children’s play area and shopping areas received a facelift.
  • New carpets on the stairs, in the corridors and in Business Lounge.
  • New toilets on whole ship.

During the renovation, arrangements were also made to stop using disposable plastic plates, cups and cutlery in all the restaurants.

STAR returned to the Tallinn-Helsinki route on Tuesday, 22 January.

BALTIC QUEEN and GALAXY are currently being modernised. This spring, two further vessels, VICTORIA I and ISABELLE will also be updated.

Slight Drop In Passengers Compensated By Rise In Cargo Units And Cars

By | 2018 Newsletter Week 14 | No Comments

Tallink Grupp’s Q1 sees a healthy growth in the rolling traffic.

  • Vehicles 222,370 = +2.3%
  • Cargo units: 90,687 = +8.2% (growth most significant on Estonia-Finland +12.9% and Latvia-Sweden +62.6%)
  • Passengers went down a bit: 1,930,449 = -0.5%

The reason for the slight drop in passengers is that for almost ten weeks only one instead of two vessels was operating the Turku-Stockholm route.
On a positive side, Estonia-Sweden and particularly Latvia-Sweden routes are developing very well and the passenger numbers are increasing.
