Tallink is giving travellers the unique opportunity to sail directly to Saaremaa from Helsinki this summer with one special return voyage to the island on the Helsinki-Saaremaa-Helsinki route on 27-29 July 2020.
Ship: VICTORIA I
Residents of Saaremaa and the Laaneranna municipality on Estonia’s mainland are in favor of a road link, such as a bridge or a tunnel between the mainland and the island of Muhu, while Muhu residents are opposed, a survey commissioned by the Estonian Road Administration shows.
The rural municipality of Saaremaa decided that it will start negotiations with the company Kihnu Veeteed regarding the relaunching of the Montu-Ventspils ferry route between Estonia and Latvia.
Canadian Société des Traversiers du Québec (STQ) is in the final stage of acquiring double-ended ferry SAAREMAA.
The ferry, which still is in Germany, will be used as a reserve vessel for the route Matane–Baie-Comeau–Godbout.
She is expected in Québec in May, to start operations in July.
LNG ferry F.A.-GAUTHIER is out of service since mid-December, with two broken azimuth propellers. She is still being repaired at the Davie shipyard. The absence of this modern ferry on the lifeline routes has caused a lot of problems. She is expected to return at the end of August.
Permanent sixth ferry needed for Saaremaa
According to an article (in Estonian) on www.err.ee the Port of Tallinn would like to have a permanent solution for the summer ferry service to the island of Saaremaa. Five ferries are in service. Now REGULA acts as backup vessel, but the company would like to have a permanent additional, sixth ferry.
A charter is actually being negotiated.
The solution of building a new ship depends on how much the Port of Tallinn receives from the State.
