Port of Santander Continues Growth in H1, 2026

The Port of Santander maintained its positive growth trend during the first six months of 2026, with improvements across most traffic segments.

Key figures

  • Total cargo throughput in June reached 638,522 tonnes, up 13.4% year-on-year.
  • Total throughput for January–June amounted to 3.49 million tonnes, an increase of 1.3%.
  • General cargo volumes grew 0.7% to 1.89 million tonnes.
  • Dry bulk traffic increased 2.0% to 1.50 million tonnes.
  • Liquid bulk volumes rose 3.5% to 107,982 tonnes.
  • Container traffic climbed 7.0% to 85,770 TEU.
  • Vehicle traffic increased 3.4% to 174,503 units.

According to the Port Authority, the growth has been driven by careful planning, effective management and continued investment in infrastructure, digitalisation and sustainability. The port also highlighted the contribution of its workforce and port community in helping to address the challenges created by ongoing global logistics uncertainty.

CLdN and Brittany Ferries Are Part of the Success of Port of Santander

The Spanish Port of Santander closes the first half year with an increase in total traffic of 9.6% and 6.2 million tons of cargo.

It is the best half year of the last five years and represents a clear recovery of merchandise traffic since the drop experienced in 2016.

On the ferry side, the line from CLdN has driven the growth of the Margen Norte dock. In addition, ro-ro cargo moved by Brittany Ferries has increased by 8.8%.

Through its hub in Zeebrugge, CLdN links Santander with Dublin, Purfleet, Killingholme, Esbjerg and Göteborg.

Brittany Ferries has direct ro-pax connections between Santander and Cork, Plymouth and Portsmouth.

Port Of Santander Closes 2017 With A Benefit Of Almost €2 Million

The Port Authority of Santander (APS = Autoridad Portuaria de Santander) closed the year 2017 with a profit of €1,9 million which represents an increase of more than 329% compared to the year before.

Interesting for the readers of Ferry Shipping News is the fact that the tonnage transported by ro-ro vessels increased by 11.2%, mainly due to the new ro-ro service by CldN. Faithful customer Brittany Ferries has also seen an increase by 13%.
