Damen Shipyards Group has unveiled a new ferry. The Fast Ferry (FF) 5012 is based on the well-established and popular Fast Ferry 4212.
The vessel has been extended, using Damen’s Enlarged Ship Concept. The increased tunnel height of the 50-metre catamaran hull allows the FF 5012 to operate effectively in rougher seas and open waters. Additionally, the passenger accommodation is positioned relatively further aft, helping to increase passenger comfort in a seaway. The two passenger decks also offer forward-facing views, further enhancing the onboard experience.
The additional space offered by the FF 5012 also provides the means for increased retail opportunities and a crew room, without reducing passenger capacity compared to the FF 4212. The FF 5012 includes as standard a large luggage hold with own side access.
Lodewijk van Os, Damen Product Manager Fast and City Ferries, said, “The FF 5012 allows operators to carry up to 450 passengers, and provides space for additional onboard services and comfort enhancements while remaining within the HSC Code Cat A framework. In our view, this new vessel provides the optimal balance between passenger comfort, operational capability and revenue potential.”
