Fjord1 Continues To Invest In Modern Tonnage

In the full year 2017 Fjord1 ASA has transported 21.1 million passengers and 10.4 million vehicles on 63 ferries. The revenue was NOK 2.8 billion.

Highlights of Fjord1’s Q4 ferry division:

  • Revenue NOK 623m
  • EBITDA NOK 234m (154.3m)
  • Result NOK 133.3m (153.6m)

Two fully-battery-operated ferries were introduced, the GLOPPEFJORD and EIDSFJORD, both built by Tersan.
In Q4, three ships were ordered at the Sefine Shipyard.
The company will finalize the contracts for another seven new buildings during the first quarter of 2018.

First of three new Fjord1 ferries launched

On December 9, Cemre Shipyard launched Newbuilding 54 (HST132), to be named HUSAVIK. She is the first of three 66m ferries to be built in cooperation with Cemre Shipyard (Turkey) and Havyard (Norway).

  • Former FINNEAGLE has been renamed EUROFERRY CORFU and is now in service on Brindisi-Igoumenitsa, together with EUROFERRY OLYMPIA. Route vessel EUROFERRY EGNAZIA is in drydock in Turkey for a refit.
  • Former NordöLink ro-pax OLYMPUS (ex ROPAX 2, ex LÜBECK LINK, ex FINNROSE) has been sold to Indian breakers for scrap.
  • Adler has acquired a secondhand fast ferry, the ADLER CAT, for its Wadden Islands service. The capacity of the 1999-OMA-built craft will be expanded from 182 to 230 passengers. The company plans a service to Helgoland as well. ADLER CAT is the former RENØY, used by Boreal.

Fjord1: strong Norwegian ferry machine presents its Q3

With 61 ferries in operation in Norway, Fjord1 has a market share of 49%. The company which is noted on the Oslo Stock Exchange since last August operates 7 of the 10 largest ferry services in Norway, and also a number of tourist boats in the fjords.
The company has 13 new ferries on order, and has more than 20 contracts with the Norwegian State, as far as in 2030.

  • FRS Caribbean, a subsidiary from Flensburg-based FRS Group, has expanded its route network. In addition to existing Miami – Bimini route the same high-speed passenger-only craft SAN GWANN will sail to Freeport, Grand Bahama. The route will be Miami-Bimini-Freeport-Bimini-Miami.
  • Algerie Ferries’ TARIQ IBN ZIYAD was victim of a car deck fire during the night of November 11, when she was under way from Marseille to Algeria. The captain decided to change course to Alcudia on Mallorca, to evacuate all guests. The crew managed to extinguish the fire. From the 500 passengers, 26 had to be treated for smoke inhalation. Nobody was injured. On November 13 Algerie Ferries’ TASSILI II was diverted to pick up the stranded passengers and their cars.
  • STENA SCOTIA has been fitted with a scrubber installation.
  • Fjord1 ASA has issued a NOK 1 billion unsecured bond loan, for the financing of up to six new ferries. This order is imminent, and comes in addition to the eight ferries already ordered. Stock exchange announcement
  • After a two-month charter MOBY DADA, the former St Peterline ship, will leave Barcelona on Thursday November 16. Together with GNV’s AZZURRA and RHAPSODY she was chartered by Madrid to house police officers during the Catalan crisis. Nicknamed “Tweety’s boat” she has been criticized by the men who stayed onboard. They will now be moved to hotels, which are available because of the low season.
  • Visentini-built ro-pax ferries NAPOLES and SICILIA are now longer on the fleet list of Stena RoRo. They have been acquired in September Kanalion Marine, a company registered in Cyprus with Juan Adolfo Utor Martinez as director. He is president of Balearia, the company that has been chartering the two ships.
