MED STAR Soon To Start Sailing, At Last

MED STAR, formerly known as VÄSTERVIK, has been presented in the port of Tanger Med. L’Economiste writes (in French) that she has been acquired by Intershipping for EUR 14 million, and that EUR 3 million has been spent to refurbish her.
The ferry was laid up for more than a year, which is like a familiar scenario for this vessel.
Capacity is 430 cars or 70 trucks, and 1,400 passengers.

Small Greek ferry AQUA JEWEL has started her charter season in the Azores. She began to operate for Atlanticoline on May 3, with a first crossing between São Miguel and Terceira.
From May till September the Seajets-owned vessel will connect eight islands of the Acores archipelago.

  • High-speed catamaran HSC EXPRESS, on charter last year to Viking Line, has been spotted in the Kiel Canal, when on her way to Spain. She has been chartered by Armas. Route so far unknown.
  • A new direct ferry service between Spain and Ireland has been started by Brittany ferries. The chartered CONNEMARA left Santander on May 6, after a passage in the Astander shipyard. To reach Cork the vessel needs 24 hours.
  • More details on the new ro-ro ships for Finnlines (as announced last week) can be found here.
  • Tirrenia starts a new freight line between Catania and Naples, with three return trips per week. The ro-ro vessel for this route is the 1,820 lane meter HARTMUT PUSCHMANN. Catania will be used as hub for transshipment to Malta.

Tirrenia Cargo’s First Of Two Ro-Ro’s Launched In Flensburg

Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft launched the first of two ro-ro ships for the SIEM Group, which will charter out the vessel on long-term bareboat charter to Tirrenia, a brand of the Onorato group.
The ALF POLLAK will be delivered in October 2018, and will be one of the largest ro-ro’s in the Med. Capacity will be 310 semi-trailers on 4,076 lane meter of garage deck.

The ship has been named after a close friend of Vincenzo Onorato. He was the first German tour operator to represent Moby Lines.

Attica’s Annual Report Follows The Green Light For The HSW Take Over

Shortly after the authorisation to get full control over Hellenic Seaways (see below), Attica published its full year annual report.

In spite of increased traffic volumes the group result was affected by the increased bunker prices.

  • Consolidated revenue of EUR 271.54m (EUR 268.61m)
  • EBITDA EUR 50.36m (EUR 70.03m)
  • Profits after tax EUR 1.25m (EUR 20.25m)
  • Increased traffic volumes in all revenue categories: passengers +2.2%, cars +5.7% and freight units +3.5%
  • Number of sailings +3.3%

A Bright And A Green Future For Fjord1

Fjord1 ASA can look back on a successful year 2017, and on an even more successful future. The company was able to sign several contracts for ferry routes. As a result several ferries are on order. The main focus is on environmental friendly solutions, with a mix of highly advanced zero- and low emission solutions.

On 15 August 2017, Fjord1 was listed on Oslo Stock Exchange’s main list, at a market capitalisation of NOK 3.4 billion.

  • Total Income: NOK 2,794,136 (NOK 2,390,911)
  • EBITDA: NOK 985,255 (NOK 732,101)

Annual Report Stena AB And Significant Events Of 2017

Stena AB published a PDF with “Restricted Group Data as of December 31, 2017.”

  • In March 2017, Stena Line GmbH acquired the chartered ro-pax MECKLENBURG VORPOMMERN from Postbank Leasing GmbH, and the vessel was sold on to Havgalleskären AB on the same day. The new owner, Havgalleskären AB, is chartering back the vessel to Stena Line GmbH on a five-year bareboat charter.
  • In October 2017, Stena Line has started a new route between Poland to Sweden, Gdynia-Nynäshamn.
  • In December 2017, the already chartered vessels STENA SUPERFAST VII and STENA SUPERFAST VIII were acquired from Tallink AS. The vessels will continue to operate on the Irish Sea.
  • In September 2017, Stena RoRo sold the ro-pax vessels NAPOLES and SICILA.

Moby Triples Net Result

Below are selected financial highlights for the fiscal year 2017 of Moby S.p.A., based on the Group’s audited, consolidated financial statements:

  • Revenues: EUR 586m, up 9%
  • EBITDA: EUR 131.8m, up 13.3%
  • Net result EUR 24.5m, tripled from EUR 7.7m
  • Total net financial debt: EUR 496.4m as of 31 December 2017

 

Traffic figures:

  • Passengers: 6.5 million
  • Freight: 7.5 million lane meters

 

The start-up of three new activities weighed on the balance sheet:

  • Cruise ferry in the Baltic Sea (Moby SPL)
  • A new connection from France to Corsica.
  • Further strengthening the motorways of the sea.

Grimaldi Orders Six Mega Ro-Ro Ships

 

The Grimaldi Group has signed an agreement for the building of six “GG5G” ro-ro vessels, for a total investment worth over USD 400 million.

  • Shipyard: Jinling, China
  • Design: Grimaldi Group and Knud E. Hansen
  • Length 238m
  • Gross tonnage 64,000
  • Lane meters 7,800 (500 trailers)
  • Hybrid: fossil fuel at sea and mega lithium batteries for use in port. Batteries will be recharged at sea through shaft generators and solar panels.
  • Hull: Air lubrication
  • Scrubber
  • Three vessels for Grimaldi Lines in the Mediterranean.
  • Three ice-class vessels for Finnlines in the Baltic.
  • Delivery as from 2020.

TT-Line Confirms The Order For Two Ferries To Be Built In Flensburg

TT-Line Company Pty Ltd and Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft GmbH & Co. KG have signed an agreement for the construction of two new ships to replace the current Spirit of Tasmania vessels. A letter of intent had already been signed in January and now the building can go ahead.
The ships will cost EUR 219 million per unit.
Construction will start soon, since the ferries are needed for the 2021 season on the Bass Strait.
The ferries will be LNG-powered.
