Havila Voyages has put planned investments on hold following a Norwegian government proposal to shorten the next coastal route contract from ten years to four–five years.
The operator warns that a shorter contract would undermine the long-term certainty needed for investment, with potential consequences for coastal jobs, communities, emissions reductions and emergency preparedness.
Norway’s parliament, the Storting, is due to decide the framework for the next coastal route agreement in December.
