Attica Group Achieves ISO 27001:2013 Certification For Information Security Management System

Attica Group obtained its certification according to the international standard ISO 27001: 2013 for the Information Security Management System (ISMS).

The ISO 27001: 2013 certification concerns the operation and management of the Group’s Data Center infrastructure, including servers, networking equipment, environmental control devices, storage equipment and physical access processes.

Obtaining and maintaining the aforementioned certification presupposes strict adherence to specific security policies and procedures for the protection of the Group’s information systems, equipment, confidential information it manages, including those relating to personal data.

Attica Group Publishes 11th Corporate Responsibility Report

The Report focuses on the Stakeholders’ main issues of interest as part of the Group’s long-term commitment to operate responsibly, with reference to 85 GRI (Global Reporting Initiatives) disclosures, 235 quantitative indicators, as well as to 38 future objectives.

Some examples:

  • Attica reduced its total energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions.
  • Distributed over €470 million in economic value:
  • Conducted internal drills on Health and Safety issues
  • Used refrigerants that do not affect the ozone layer
  • Was subjected to 45 inspections from local authorities for food hygiene and safety, with no recorded non-compliance incidents.
  • Had no violation cases concerning main principles and rules of professional behavior, corruption incidents or bribery incidents related to its employees.

Scandlines Confirms Its Role as Provider of Essential and Green Infrastructure

The hybrid ferry COPENHAGEN, which runs between Rostock and Gedser, was retrofitted in May 2020 with a 30m high rotor sail from Norsepower Oy Ltd.

“By installing the rotor sail, CO2 emissions can be reduced by an estimated 4-5% without affecting the speed and travel time,” reports Heiko Kähler, Managing Director of Scandlines Deutschland GmbH.

With the green investments, Scandlines was already able to demonstrate stable and solid economic performance in the 2019 operating result and it is assumed that this will also benefit the business.

In the first months of 2020, business was still relatively stable, but the outbreak of COVID-19 within Europe and the subsequent travel restrictions led to a sharp decline in passenger traffic. “To date, we have already recorded a loss of more than 70,000 cars on the Rostock-Gedser route and we expect that the traffic figures will also be negatively affected by the Corona crisis for the rest of the year,” said Heiko Kähler.

Even during the Corona crisis, Scandlines continued to operate on both the Puttgarden-Rødby and Rostock-Gedser routes in order to serve freight customers and thus ensure critical supply chains On Rostock-Gedser Scandlines transported 90% of the truck volumes compared to the previous year.

Although Scandlines is optimistic, the outbreak of COVID-19 is expected to have a significant negative impact on traffic and economic results this year.

Goro Tours to Reopen the Only High-Speed Ferry Link between Italy And Croatia

As from next Saturday, July 25, and until August 29, the only high-speed ferry link between Italy and Croatia will the one operated by Goro Tours.

A statement from the port authority of the Central Adriatic Sea informed that the renewed maritime service will connect the port of Pesaro with Losinj Island.

The high-speed craft KRILO ECLIPSE will be deployed. The transit time will take less than three hours as the 440-pax vessel can reach 35 knots.

The sea bridge between the two sides of the Adriatic Sea will be covered 16 times. The ship is scheduled to sail every Monday, Thursday and Saturday from Italy.

Kleven Shipyard is Saved

Green Yard Group took over the bankrupt Kleven Verft.

The core competence will be preserved and Green Yard Kleven wants also in the future to be one of Norway’s most renowned shipyards.

Green Yard Group has plans to continue the shipyard operations, but at the same time expand the operations to new business areas that can provide a stable supply of work in addition to shipbuilding and maintenance. Green Yard is Norway’s leading player in ship recycling, but wants to continue building ships at Kleven in addition to its other business areas.

There are also new owners for the two companies that were under Kleven Verft:

  • Kleven Maritime Technology continues to be owned by its own employees
  • Kleven Maritime Contracting has been taken over by Langset AS

Public Subsidies’ Extension to Tirrenia Cin Limited to February 28, 2021

The ‘Decreto Rilancio’ law, which was approved by the Italian parliament a few days ago, decreases the time for the extension of the public subsidies, from 18 July 2021 to 28 February 2021.

It concerns the public subsidies of yearly EUR 72 million, were granted to Tirrenia Cin for the maritime continuity with the main islands (Sardinia, Sicily and Tremiti).

The public concession should have expired on last July 18, but due (also) to the coronavirus the term had necessarily to be postponed.

Two of the competitors on the routes, Grimaldi and Grendi, said they would oppose this postponement at the Antitrust authorities both in Italy and in Europe.

The extension agreed by the Decreto Rilancio law is anyway subject to the approval from the European Commission.

Smyril Line’s New Service to Hirtshals Exhibits Growth after the First Six Months

In January, Smyril Line started a new service from Hirtshals to Torshavn on the Faroe Islands and Thorlakshöfn in Iceland. Thorlakshöfn is located 40 km south of the Icelandic capital Reykjavik. The service is operated by roro AKRANES, and after the first six month, the service is exhibiting a steady growth on the traffic between West Iceland and Hirtshals.

The European Union Supports the Establishment of the Infrastructure of the Tallinn-Helsinki Twin City Maritime Connection with EUR 10 million in the Joint Project TWIN PORT 4

The ports of Tallinn and Helsinki will receive up to EUR 10 million of European Union support from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) for infrastructure investments. The total volume of planned investments is EUR 33 million.

As the project number suggests, this is the fourth TWIN PORT project, the aim of which is to develop one of the most active shipping routes in Europe between two capitals on the shores of the Gulf of Finland.

Greek Interest for the Small Japanese Ferry NEW IBUKI

An Ionian ferry operator seems to be interested to purchase the NEW IBUKI, of the Japanese Kan-onji City.

The ship served on the Kannonji-Ibukijima route and last March was replaced by the newbuilding NEW IBUKI II.

The NEW IBUKI was built in 1994 by Mitsui Shipbuilding (Tamano). She is 137gt, 34,76m long, 7m wide and 3m draught. Her carrying capacity is for 300 passengers. She has 2 main engines (1.300 bhp) and her service speed is 17 knots.
