Baleària Begins The LNG Conversion Of NAPOLES
NAPOLES is the first of six Baleària ferries to be converted into an LNG-powered ship.
The ro-pax arrived at the Gibdock shipyards in Gibraltar, where the modification of the engines and the installation of the LNG tank will be carried out.
Completion is scheduled for 15 February 2019.
The two current MAN9L48 / 60 engines of the ship will be changed into 9L51/60DF, dual-fuel by MAN Energy Solutions.
Wärtsilä will provide the LNG storage tank (440m3), which will give an autonomy of 1,200 nautical miles.
The gas pipes will be supplied by Cryospain, while the engineering project has been carried out by Cotenaval.
The total investment is EUR 12 million, 20% of which will be paid through the CEF (Connecting Europe Facility) funds of the European Union.
In addition to NAPOLES, Baleària plans to change the engines of ferries ABEL MATUTES, SICILIA, BAHAMA MAMA and MARTIN I SOLER, and other more ferry more without the help of CEF funds.
