Interferry Voices Fire Safety Concerns At Imo

Work to improve ro-pax fire safety has become a major area of activity for Interferry following several high-profile incidents in recent years, and this was again underlined by some key interventions at the fifth annual session of the IMO’s Ship Systems and Equipment (SSE) Sub-Committee, which took place from March 12-16.

Interferry Security Committee Urges France To Pause Screening Plan

By 2018 Newsletter Week 12&13

Interferry has written to the French administration regarding their plans for the on-board security screening of ferry passengers between vehicle decks and the accommodation areas.
In Interferry’s view, vehicle decks are not a safe environment to harbour large number of passengers in transition to the stairways – such an accumulation would increase the risk of accidents, inhibit effective evacuation and limit the scope for protection from an armed attack.

Interferry main event heading back to Australia

Interferry has chosen Hobart, Tasmania, as the venue for its 45th annual conference in October 2020.
“We felt it was important to go back to Australia – we have a strong base of members there and they have always been very supportive,” explains CEO Mike Corrigan. “It’s also another strategically significant opportunity to extend our influence and membership in the Asia-Pacific region following the 2016 conference in Manila.”
The host company will be association member TT-Line Spirit of Tasmania.

Meanwhile the next two events will be hosted by fast ferry operators – Ultramar in Cancun, Mexico, this October and London’s MBNA Thames Clippers in 2019.
