Parliamentary candidate, Alison MacCorquodale (Labour), has called for immediate action to charter a freight vessel for the Stornoway-Ullapool route in order to ease pressure on the LOCH SEAFORTH and the wider CalMac network.

The Naviera Armas order seems to be imminent. It will require the Barreras shipyard to maximise the suitable space, and eventually expand. The Armas ferry would be 190m long.
The yard is already building ships for Havila Kystlink and Ritz-Carlton.
The Board of Directors have asked the commercial court to put the yard in liquidation.
