- Capacity on the 3-ship Nor Lines service between Baltic ports and Norway will be expanded to 4 vessels.
- Two vessel pairs operating separate schedules.
- One pair will connect northern Norway with German and Dutch ports, focusing on frozen fish/project cargoes southbound and palletized/project cargoes northbound.
- The other ship pair will serve importers and exporters in Danish and Polish ports, connecting with Western Norway in the Fredrikstad-Tromsø range, calling weekly northbound and prioritizing southbound calls for reefer/project cargo volumes.
- The entirely separate Nor Lines’ multipurpose liner service connecting the Netherlands to Norway weekly will add a call at the Dutch port of Velsen. The addition of Velsen as the first Dutch call is also expected to attract northbound palletized and project cargoes. This service is maintained by the LNG-powered vessels KVITBJØRN and KVITNOS.
October 8th at 12 AM local time is the limit date for shipyards interested at submitting their offers for building a new ro-pax train ferry due to be deployed by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI) on the Strait of Messina.
The tender launched by the national railways Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane specifies that the starting terms are €56.5 million for the price and 495 days for the construction time.
This new vessel will be a sister ship of the MESSINA which was delivered in 2013 from Nuovi Cantieri Apuania based in Carrara, Italy.
Bluferries, another shipping company controlled by Ferrovie dello Stato group and active on the routes linking the two sides of the Strait of Messina, had just chartered-in for three months f(rom Tarmar) the high-speed vessel PRINCESS OF DUBROVNIK in order to provide as from 1 October a regular passenger service between Messina and Reggio Calabria.
The same service was previously covered by Liberty Lines.
Few days after revealing the attempt to sell and charter back three modern ferries (SHARDEN, BITHIA and JANAS) with a Japanese financial partner, Mauro Pili, former president of the Sardinia region, informed the general public that Tirrenia decided to put up for sale the aged ferry AURELIA.
The vessel is currently chartered out to SNAV and deployed on the Ancona-Split.
Mauro Pili posted a copy of the email circulated on the market by the Naples-based shipbroker Unitramp in which all the technical details of the ship are reported.
DFDS Increase Cargo Capacity At The Port Of Trieste
Following the takeover of U.N. Ro-Ro by DFDS, the port of Trieste received on 30 September the first call of the renovated vessel UN KARADENIZ which underwent a 30meters lengthening work at Gemak shipyard in order to obtain a 23% cargo capacity increase.
Today the vessel is 223m long, can transport over 350 trailers and is sailing under the new brand colours.
The same lengthening project was also applied to the sister ship UN AKDENIZ in March 2017, while the two ships CUNEYT SOLAKOGLU and CEMIL BAYULGEN will follow soon.
All those vessels are deployed on the services operated by DFDS and linking Trieste with Turkey, namely Pendik, Ambarli and Mersin for a total of 10 calls per week.
Due to the upgrade in the fleet capacity, the ro-ro terminal in Northern Adriatic controlled trough Samer Seaports & Terminals (company 60% owned by DFDS and 40% by the local agent Samer & Co. Shipping group) is supposed to substantially increase its annual throughput of trailers handled in the coming years.

Rolls-Royce Commercial Marine has inaugurated a brand new ship simulator in Ålesund, Norway. It will be used for customer training courses, and for advanced engineering and technology development work.
Europe Opens The Door To Recover The Motor of the Sea Link Between Gijón And Nantes
The EU approves Baleària’s project to operate a ferry service between Gijón and Nantes.
Baleària presented a project in cooperation with the ports of Gijón, Nantes and Valencia and the company Gas Natural Fenosa.
The ferry company would receive EUR 12 million for the conversion of one of their ships into a LNG-power.
Baleària will now have to decide which ship.
Parliamentary candidate, Alison MacCorquodale (Labour), has called for immediate action to charter a freight vessel for the Stornoway-Ullapool route in order to ease pressure on the LOCH SEAFORTH and the wider CalMac network.
She has pointed to reports that ro-ro vessel, CLIPPER RANGER, which was formerly deployed on the Stornoway-Ullapool route is “resting” at the Cammell Laird yard on Merseyside.
