Stena Line Installs Japanese Sleeping Pods

Stena Line has installed Japanese sleeping pods on its MECKLENBURG-VORPOMMERN and SKÅNE vessels, operating between Rostock in Germany and Trelleborg in Sweden.

Stena Line is the first ferry company to offer its customers Japanese sleeping pods which will be a cost-efficient way to sleep and rest during the crossing.

The pods are inspired by Japanese capsule hotels offer two square metre space for one person.

Each berth is equipped with a mattress and bed linen, as well as air conditioning, charging station and WiFi – and luggage can be stored outside the pods in lockers.

The journey from Rostock to Trelleborg takes 6 or 7 hours depending on the departure and is one of the most popular routes between Germany and Sweden, especially during the summer months.

In line with Chinese tradition, a coin was placed under the keel and this time Chief Engineer Matti Thomsen was given the honour of sealing it as a symbol of luck throughout the construction process and while at sea.

The fourth freight ferry is expected to be delivered in the last quarter of 2019.
