Being lucky? That is for example having the opportunity to photograph the MIDNATSOL (translated: midnight sun) at midnight. The photo was taken in Ålesund last Sunday.

MIDNATSOL is one of the six Hurtigruten vessels that will be converted into a LNG-hybrid powered ship. Hurtigruten has signed a letter of intent with Rolls Royce for this important conversion, linked to the new contract with the Norwegian State to operate 7 of the 11 licenses along the Norwegian Coast. The new license starts in 2021, and will be shared with Havila Kystlink (four ships to be built).

Scandlines increases environmental performance

At the end of last year, HASYTEC’s Ultrasound Dynamic Biofilm Protection System was put into operation on Scandlines’ hybrid ferry, BERLIN.
The installation optimizes the seawater cooling systems during summer, when the temperature of the Baltic Sea is increasing and the ferries are sailing at a higher speed due to the large number of customers. In addition to increased operational safety, the reduction in maintenance has a positive impact on the environment.
In contrast to conventional ICAF systems, this system does not release copper in the sea.

Hurtigruten’s two newbuildings ROALD AMUNDSEN and FRIDTJOF NANSEN, built as expedition ships for the polar regions, will also sail along the Norwegian Coast in 2019. The expedition ships will come in addition to Hurtigruten’s 11 ships on Bergen – Kirkeness, and will also visit places not done by the conventional ships. The two hybrid expedition ships are under construction at Kleven, and the first is expected in the summer of next year.
