GNV In Negotiation for a 25% Stake in Africa Morocco Link?

The MSC-controlled ferry company Grandi Navi Veloci seems to be in advanced negotiation for taking a minority share in Africa Morocco Link.

The rumour was reported by several media both in Morocco and in Greece while the Genoa-headquartered company preferred not to comment on the issue upon request from Ferry Shipping News.

Africa Morocco Link operates between the ports of Tanger and Algeciras with a fleet of three ferries offering regulars sailings between the two sides of the Mediterranea sea.

As of today, the company founded in 2016 is jointly participated by the Moroccan BMCE Bank (51%) and the Greek group Attica (49%). According to what local media reported, BMCE bank should dismiss the AML’s majority share under its control before the end of the third year from the company foundation and that would be the reason why Grandi Navi Veloci was contacted as a potential investor.

Ferry Passengers Increasing (+4%) And Ro-Ro Decreasing (-1%) In The Port Of Ancona

In 2018, 1,151,266 passengers were handled in the port of Ancona, 6% more compared with the year before, and 1,084,235 of those were transported by ferries (+4%).

More in detail:

  • 771,874 passengers (+1%) Ancona – Igoumenitsa – Patras
  • 221,446 (+7%) Ancona – Split (Croatia)
  • 90,832 (+29%) Ancona – Durres (Albania).

The ferry companies active in the port of Ancona are Minoan Lines, Superfast Ferries and Anek Lines (to and from Greece), Grandi Navi Veloci and Adria Ferries (to and from Albania) and Jadrolinija and Snav (to and from Croatia).

As for the ro-ro traffic, 147,650 trucks and trailers were handled in the port in 2018, which means a 1% decrease compared with the previous year.

Grandi Navi Veloci Relaunch The Genoa-Olbia Link With ‘Rebranded’ Ships

Six years after closing down the Genoa – Olbia route, Grandi Navi Veloci decided to relaunch the route between Northern Italy and the port at the heart of the Costa Smeralda on the island of Sardinia.

The service is expected to start on 25 May and will last until 29 September, in parallel with the other maritime link operated between Genoa and Porto Torres. “With two routes and 280 sailings, we are going to offer a capacity for 700,000 passengers to be transported between Sardinia and the Italian mainland” said Mateo Catani, CEO of the ferry company.

Interesting detail for the lovers of the Italian rock star Vasco Rossi: some of the GNV’s ferries set to be deployed on the Sardinia routes will entirely be covered by an advertisement campaign for the concert to be held on 19 and 20 June. Vasco Rossi revealed the new layout of the ferry EXCELSIOR on his Facebook page.
