Anek Lines’ EL VENIZELOS Chartered to Algérie Ferries

On 24 May 2025, Anek Lines’ EL VENIZELOS made her final sailing on the Chania (Crete)–Piraeus route before heading to the Elefsis shipyard for preparations ahead of a long-term charter to Algérie Ferries.

She will be replaced on the route by her fleet mate KISSAMOS.

Previously, EL VENIZELOS was chartered to Tunisia Ferries from 2005 to 2011. She was the largest ferry flying the Greek flag and has served as the Anek Lines flagship for 33 years.

EL. VENIZELOS on the Piraeus – Chania line on June 23

On June 23, 2023, Anek Lines’ flagship EL. VENIZELOS will join her fleet mate ELYROS on the classic Piraeus – Chania (Crete) line. The large ship was out of service for almost three years and it was decided to reintroduce her into the Hellenic Coastal Shipping in the beginning of 2023, replacing Blue Star Ferries’ RoPax BLUE GALAXY.

Since February she has been undergoing a full refit, dry docking and engine overhauling at Perama Repair Zone.

On June 20 she successfully underwent her sea trials as well.

Anek Lines’ EL VENIZELOS returns to the Piraeus-Crete service in June

ANEK LINES is preparing the return of its cruise ferry EL. VENIZELOS on the Piraeus – Chania (Crete) line, after a two- year layup (25.04.2020) at Perama repair zone.

According to the Blue Star Ferries timetable, the ship is expected to replace BLUE GALAXY on June 30, 2023. The ferry is currently undergoing a significant refit.

She already had undergone a significant upgrade and renovation of her interior public spaces in 2019.
