Europe Gives Green Light To Cyprus-Greece Ferry Link

Outgoing Cypriot Deputy Shipping Minister Natasa Pilides announced during a press conference on Monday July 6, that EU approved for a maximum state aid of EUR 6 million annually, for a Cyprus – Greece ropax ferry connection.

A crossing between Cyprus and Piraeus takes 16 hours. Last service was two decades ago.

The tender process can now be started.

Naviera Armas Trasmediterranea Renames RoRo

The Spanish company renamed JOSÉ MARIA ENTRECANALES. The 3,500 lane meter roro vessel is now VILLA DE TAZACORTE, after the town on the island of La Palma.

With her capacity and sufficient connections for refrigerated trailers she is transporting a lot of bananas from the Canary Islands to Cadiz.

Seajets’ CHAMPION JET 2 Entered Service On July 4

On the afternoon of July 4, SeaJets’ HSC CHAMPION JET 2 was introduced on the Piraeus-Serifos-Sifnos-Milos line. She is the second vessel of this type to be activated within the Hellenic Coastal Shipping for the summer season 2020 and according to her operator, she is expected to serve the line until July 20, 2020.

Ventouris Ferries’ RIGEL II Is Back On The Italy-Albania Route

On July 4, Ventouris Ferries’ RIGEL II left Greece for the port of Durres (Albania).

She arrived at Perama in mid-March in order to undergo scheduled repairs and dry-docking (15.06-18.06.2020). According to the company’s booking system, she is expected to be introduced on the Bari-Durres line, on July 8, 2020.

Fast Ferries, One Of The Last Traditional Greek Ferry Operators

FRS Buys Catamaran For The New ‘Königslinie’

In April Stena Line announced the end of the ferry service between Sassnitz and Trelleborg.

FRS has now announced it will reopen the so-called Königslinie (*) in September.

FRS has agreed with Fjord Line to acquire its HSC FJORD CAT. It will operate for Fjord Line until August 23. One month later, FRS will start its new operation.

Instead of Trelleborg, FRS will sail to Ystad.

Crossing time will be 2h30, allowing for two return trips per day.

Bookings can be made from July onwards via the website www.koenigslinjen.com(*) Köningslinie or King’s Line: the name originates from the German emperor and Swedish king who attended the festive route opening ceremony in 1897.

Tallink Grupp Invests In RoRo Tonnage

Baltic SF VIII Ltd, a subsidiary of AS Tallink Grupp purchased ro-pax vessel SAILOR from Navirail OÜ.

The purchase of the ro-pax vessel will strengthen Tallink fleet’s cargo capacity, much needed after the pandemic. More operational flexibility between roro and ropax is needed, said Tallink CEO Paavo Nogene.

Ship has a capacity of 1,400 lane meter and 119 pax.

The transaction price is EUR 8.5 million.

The ship is going to sail under the Estonian flag. The vessel is scheduled to be handed over on 9 July 2020.

GNV Adds RoRo Tonnage

The Genoa-based ferry company Grandi Navi Veloci chartered-in for a few months the ro-ro unit PAULINE RUSS.

The vessel, which has 1,624 lane metres for 120 semitrailers capacity, is already deployed on the Genoa – Palermo maritime link for the summer season. This same vessel had been chartered-in by Moby – Tirrenia in the last few years.

Grandi Navi Veloci this week also announced to have obtained from Rina classification society the “Biosafety Trust Certification” confirming that both the vessel and the terminal operators of the group are compliant with the Covid emergency measures.
