Zeebrugge – Killingholme: a new Friday sailing (7 sailings per week)
Zeebrugge – Purfleet: extra weekend sailing on Sunday (12 sailings per week).
Two vessels have rejoined the CLdN fleet: WILHELMINE is no longer chartered by P&O Ferries and CADENA 3 (ex MASSIMO MURA) is no longer sailing for Tirrenia Cargo.
After working for Grendi, SEVERINE is now on charter to GNV.
On April 1, DFDS will introduce a fourth ferry –ARK DANIA– to the successful direct ferry service between Rosslare Europort and Dunkerque.
This brings the number of direct services between Rosslare and the European Continent to 36, every week.
ARK DANIA is a freight ferry with a capacity of 188 truck units (including 12 driver accompanied units and 176 unaccompanied units/trailers).
The “Mull & Iona Ferry Committee” is a group representing the users of Scottish lifeline ferry services.
They have been working hard to convince CMAL and Transport Scotland to investigate a soon available catamaran (under construction) and buy it for the Craignure-Oban service.
However, the vessel needs be approved by the Maritime Coastguard Agency. And that creates a problem. Transport Scotland ‘lack sufficient confidence’ that the catamaran on offer will gain approval from MCA, and so they will not negotiate a purchase.
On the other side, the sellers insist that it can pass the MCA, but the only way to ultimately find out is put it through formal assessment.
The users’ committee successfully launched a crowdfunding campaign to pay for the MCA approval study.
KVSA And DFDS Prolong Their Long-Term Relationship
After a very successful collaboration lasting more than 25 years, maritime & logistics company KVSA and ferry operator DFDS have recently signed a new commercial agreement, spanning the next 10 years at the Felison passenger terminal in the Port of Ijmuiden, Netherlands.
The IJmuiden – Newcastle ferry route has been very fortunate to experience a growing demand in both passenger and freight volumes in recent years, however in February 2020 passenger traffic was severely reduced due to Covid19.
Freight volumes however continued to grow and DFDS are now preparing for the ‘soon to be expected’ return of passenger traffic on the IJmuiden – Newcastle route.
In the renewed partnership, KVSA will continue to service DFDS as landlord of the passenger-terminal and provide daily professional stowage and loading of the 2 DFDS vessels, KING SEAWAYS and PRINCESS SEAWAYS.

According to the Port Economics report, 5.437 million containers were handled from the port of Piraeus during 2020, while 5.415 million TEU from the port of Valencia.
The first three places are traditionally occupied by the port of Rotterdam (14.349 million TEU), the port of Antwerp (12.023 million TEU) and the port of Hamburg (8.52 million TEU). The top 15 ports in Europe handled 76.8 million TEU in 2020, a number reduced by 2.8% compared to 2019.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the port of Rotterdam remained fully operational but the pandemic did affect cargo throughput, which fell by 6.9% in 2020.

The aim of the association is to improve the tourist potential of Rügen and to make the neighboring tourist regions more accessible to ferry and cruise.
In a press release, the association writes that Mukran and Sassnitz are two high-performance ports which are scoring this year as new gateways for tourism on the island of Rügen.
“Mukran Port is virtually predestined as an industrial port with the fastest catamaran connection for travel between Sweden and Germany, especially for day trips to Ystad. After a longer time out due to Corona, regular excursions to the Danish island of Bornholm will now take place again starting April.”

TT Express Seabridge Ferry Sold
Incat 046 T&T EXPRESS (1997) has been sold to Spanish operator Trasmapi for USD 3 million.
Trasmapi (Servicios y Concesiones Maritimas Ibicenca SA) operates ferries between Ibiza and Formentera.
