TT-Line Company Pty Ltd and Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft GmbH & Co. KG have signed an agreement for the construction of two new ships to replace the current Spirit of Tasmania vessels. A letter of intent had already been signed in January and now the building can go ahead.
The ships will cost EUR 219 million per unit.
Construction will start soon, since the ferries are needed for the 2021 season on the Bass Strait.
The ferries will be LNG-powered.
TT-Line Company Pty Ltd, operators of Spirit of Tasmania, will order two brand new purpose-built ships to replace the current fleet by 2021.
These two new ships will have a substantially larger capacity:
- Passengers: from 1,400 to 2,000
- Passenger vehicles lane meter: from 1,000 to 1,714
- Freight lane meter: from 1,800 to 2,500
The order will be placed in the first half of next year. So far the yard has not been chosen yet.
TT-Line, operating ferries between Sweden, Germany and Poland, has decided to have the ferry PETER PAN lengthened by 30m.
In early 2018 the ro-pax will go to Bremerhaven, where German Drydocks will do the job. The vessel will also get a new bow, with improved fuel consumption characteristics. The process will take two months.
