The Italian-Cypriot Chamber of Commerce organized earlier this week a “Smart Talk” with Vassilios Demetriades, Shipping Deputy Minister of the Republic of Cyprus, focused on the tender for the establishment of a maritime link between Cyprus and Greece, which has the submission deadline on 29 January 2021.

The link will be subsidised for three plus three years for a total amount of EUR 30 million (15 million for each period) as it was considered a “service of general economic interest”.

The passenger maritime link between Cyprus and Greece under public obligation will have to link the port of Limassol or Larnaka and the port of Piraeus (terminal of Keratsini) with the possibility to introduce an intermediate stop at one Greek island on its way to the final destination.

The service will have to be performed with a ropax vessel, EU-flagged and compliant with all international, community and national rules and regulations in respect of safety and environmental issues.
