European Shipowners | ECSA has reiterated its priorities as Parliament and Council negotiate the EU ETS revision:
- Triple maritime funding: increase the proposed Sustainable Maritime Alternative Propulsion (SMAP) allocation from 110 million to 330 million allowances. ECSA says shipping generates around EUR 9 billion annually in ETS revenues.
- Make support predictable: allow advance applications for sustainable fuels and all technologies delivering carbon savings, including energy efficiency.
- Protect connectivity: maintain, extend and improve derogations for islands, outermost regions, ice-class vessels and cross-border public services.
- Simplify compliance: align ETS, MRV and FuelEU Maritime requirements and introduce a single system for offshore vessels.
- Support European competitiveness: reward EU fuel and technology production through bonus points and fund port infrastructure without distorting competition.
