CLDN’s CELINE, the biggest shortsea ro-ro arrived in Europe

CLdN is deploying the brand new ro-ro vessel CELINE on the Rotterdam – Zeebrugge – Dublin connection. The ship with a capacity of almost 8,000 lane meter, is the biggest ro-ro vessel on a shortsea route. Next year, sistership DELPHINE will join.

CLdN CELINE arrived in Zeebrugge on Saturday October 21, after a 42-day delivery trip from Korea. She docked at the Albert II dock in Zeebrugge, where C.Ro Ports has taken a new terminal into use to consolidate all the non-UK freight. The Brittaniadock is now strictly used for UK-related loads.

CELINE is deployed on CLdN’s route between Dublin, Ireland and Zeebrugge. The rotation of the ship is: Dublin – Zeebrugge – Rotterdam – Zeebrugge – Dublin. A round trip includes Zeebrugge twice. The first time for unloading, the second time for loading.

The ship arrived in Rotterdam on Tuesday, October 24, from where she started her regular schedule.

  • CLdN decided to introduce an additional ro-ro –ADELINE– on the Rotterdam-London service. From each port there will be two extra sailings per week.
  • GNV’s ro-pax ferry LA SUPREMA made a transatlantic crossing, and is now in San Juan, the capital of Maria-ravaged Puerto Rico. She is acting as a relief ship after the hurricane.
  • CMA CGM will bring in STENA CARRIER and ARK FORWARDER for their new Morocco Express service (see Ferry Shipping News, week 37). These two Stena RoRo ships have a capacity of about 2,700 lane meter.
  • Stena’s former TRELLEBORG, operating as SUNNY between the islands of Qeshm (Iran), has been sold for scrap.
  • Ro-pax STENA EGERIA arrived in Durrës on October 8. She has been chartered by Adria Ferries for one year, from Stena RoRo. She replaces the BRIDGE, which was spotted in Port Suez on October 10. STENA EGERIA has been renamed AF MICHELA.
  • ABB is going to provide an Azipod propulsion system for the new Viking Line cruise ferry to be built in China, the first installation of Azipod propulsion in a cruise-ferry application.
  • Ship2Shore reports that the Onorato Group (Moby/Tirrenia) is aiming at a sale & lease back contract with foreign investors, to cash money from MOBY TOMMY, JANAS, BITHIA and ATHARA.

Largest ro-ro on its way to Europe

CELINE, CLdN’s first 8,000 lane metre ro-ro has left the Hyundai MiPo shipyard in Ulsan, South-Korea on September 8.

Her first stop will be in Singapore. Once in Europe she will serve either the UK-Zeebrugge or UK-Rotterdam route.

CLdN have six ro-ro’s on order, with three more MiPo sister vessels, and two other ships under construction in Croatia at the Uljanik shipyard. Options for respectively two and four more are still waiting to be declared.
