Ferry Passengers and RoRo Traffic Decreased in Italy in the First Half of 2020

According to the statistics released by the Italian port authorities association ‘Assoporti’, the total throughput of passengers transited in H1 was 9,262,808 units (-56.1%), of which 1,897,445 transported on deep-sea ferry links (-63,5%) and 6,882,420 on short-sea routes (-40,3%).

As for the deep-sea ferry segment, the port of Olbia is the leading one with 305,222 passengers (-63.8%).

The passenger traffic decreased almost in every port:

  • Genoa (-62.9%)
  • Savona (-80.9%)
  • Livorno (-68.2%)
  • Civitavecchia (-62.5%)
  • Naples (-57.5% for the deep sea routes and -67.8 for the local maritime links),
  • Messina (-28.2%)
  • Bari (-53.9%),
  • Ancona (-69.8%)
  • Venice (-72.5%).

Looking at the ro-ro traffic, some 43,875 tons of cargo were handled in Italy, which mean -9%.
